On Monday, Representative Jasmine Crockett joined us for a live virtual event about Project 2025. Among the many inspirational things she shared, she reminded us that we have far more influence with the people in our lives than a member of Congress like her holds.
Rep. Crockett is famous for her moving speeches that put complicated legal issues into everyday language, but she knows that those speeches have a tough time breaking through to anyone who isn’t already on her side. They see her, one of the faces of the Democratic Party, and immediately tune out.
But for the people in our lives, we’re a person first. We’re a neighbor, friend, or family member. They trust us and know we’re coming from a place of care for our community and democracy. When we’re our most authentic selves and speak from the heart, they listen.
Congress has a lot of power, but everyday Americans are the ones who elected them. If we keep having authentic conversations with the people in our lives, we can make a real difference.
