Like A Horror Movie Villain, The SAVE Act Is Back

But we can stop it (again) if we act now

Last year, Red Wine & Blue members flooded their representatives’ offices with phone calls, emails, and letters demanding they vote No on the SAVE Act. It was a bill designed to make it harder to vote — for women in particular — under the guise of “election security.”

And our efforts worked! That version of the SAVE Act didn’t pass because of widespread public opposition.

But now, MAGA has resurrected the bill. Because with everything going on in our country right now, why wouldn’t they prioritize taking away people’s right to vote? Republican policies, from ICE violence to tariffs, are increasingly unpopular and they’ve been losing elections left and right… but instead of changing their policies, they’re blatantly trying to suppress votes.

Public opposition has already made a difference again — the bill’s requirement that voters show a passport or birth certificate every time they vote has been changed to say that instead, states will be required to submit their voter rolls to the Department of Homeland Security, as well as a restrictive photo ID requirement for voting.

But this new language is hardly better. Every version of the SAVE Act will keep millions of Americans from legally casting their vote. And — as we mentioned in the Okay But Why video above — it’s all to “solve” a nonexistent problem! Voter fraud is so rare in this country that it’s had zero effect on the outcomes of our elections.

Congress is set to vote on the bill this week so we don’t have a moment to lose. Reach out to your representatives here and tell them to vote No on the SAVE Act… again!
