You Thought Elections Were Over? Think Again
Meet Aftyn Behn, the Democrat seeking to flip a Tennessee House seat deep in Trump Country
Tennessee voters have a chance to flip a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives as Democratic State Representative Aftyn Behn faces off against Trump’s hand-picked candidate, Van Epps, in a special election for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District—the last election in the country this year.
Previously considered a long shot in the gerrymandered district, Behn is quickly gaining ground in an area Donald Trump won by more than 20 percentage points in last year’s presidential race.
With Democrats’ sweeping victories earlier this month, it’s now Tennessee’s 7th District’s chance to show the whole country their values – that they care about standing up for working people, health care, reproductive freedom, and safe communities.
Raised by working-class parents in Knoxville, Aftyn Behn’s background as a community organizer, social worker, and state representative stands in stark contrast to Epps’ history as a party loyalist who worked for a decade in Tennessee GOP Governor Bill Lee’s administration.

Behn has been fighting for working families for years, and she wants to go to Washington to solve problems, not engage in partisan politics.
This critical election is on December 2nd, and early voting has already begun.
So, if you (or someone you know!) live outside the Nashville area in CD-7 and want to elect a representative who focuses on affordability and opportunity over another typical insider hand-picked by Donald Trump, get out and vote!
Picking up a U.S. House seat brings us one step closer to taking back the House in 2026 — our best shot at stopping the Trump chaos at the federal level.
