Why Katie Paris is going to a No Kings Day event in a town that Trump won
And how other women in her town are making good trouble too
It can be hard to remember that we are the majority when the news is swamped with extremists describing an America we don’t even recognize, we see MAGA signs in people’s yards, and when we scroll social media.
But we are in the majority, and none of us is alone. That’s why Katie is going to a No Kings Day event in a town that Donald Trump won.
“I could attend the massive event that will be held in my state’s capitol, but instead, I want to be in a town that Trump won, so I can stand in solidarity with the community and help remind them that no one is alone, anywhere. Especially since, just yesterday, Trump said, “I hear very few people are gonna be there.” We are going to prove him very wrong.
I want to talk to people who feel, like I do, that extremism has no place here and no one is above the law – we have No Kings in America. I want to talk to people who are as frustrated as I am with how our public schools are being defunded and our immigrant communities are being harassed. I want to talk to people who have a better vision for our towns, our states, and our country.” (Katie Paris)
Meanwhile, other women in Katie’s town are making their own good trouble. This week on the pod, we talked to Jennifer Clawson, one of the leaders of the TroubleNation group Hope in the Heights.
Not only are members of the group heading to No Kings on Saturday, but they’ve also been organizing year-round to make lasting change. They’ve held trainings and shared resources about redistricting, public school funding, and staying safe while protesting… and that’s just in the past few weeks. One of Jennifer’s co-leaders, Jenny, is even running for the school board this year!
Whether you attend a No Kings protest or not this weekend, know you’re in the majority with us — with Jennifer and Hope in the Heights, Katie Paris, and all of Red Wine & Blue. And that means the world.
