For this week’s TroubleNation Tuesday we are taking a look at the Medina Mavens, one of the original TroubleNation groups to form! Shortly after the fall of Roe with the Dobbs decision, three women in Medina County knew they had to do something. The Medina Mavens grew from that group of just three women – Shelly Rea, Terry Stancin, and Karen Thorn – to its current membership of more than 500 women in ruby red Medina County, Ohio.
One story that we love from the Medina Mavens is that of Laura Mullen, who joined their leadership. Laura loved working with the Medina Mavens and Red Wine & Blue so much that she is now the Deputy Director of RWB’s Ohio team!
In 2023 the Medina Mavens played an integral role in Ohio’s push for reproductive freedom. Their volunteers gathered thousands of signatures for the Ohio reproductive rights ballot initiative for three straight months on Medina's historic square, collecting many new members in the process.
The Medina Mavens are known for having a lot of fun while organizing, which has really helped with recruiting new members. In fact, they’ve even dressed up as a dinosaur and a shark to help collect petition signatures. Now that is some creative thinking!
If you are in the Medina area you can learn more about this group and join in their fun here.
And if you aren’t near the Mavens, don’t worry, we have a lot of fun groups all across the country. You can learn more about TroubleNation, search for a group in your local area or learn more about starting your own group by visiting our TroubleNation page.
