There's a lot of information still coming out but it does seem like an overnight text message was sent to those people who had service! The county had rejected a siren system a few years ago because it would be "too expensive."
The broader concern beyond this specific tragedy, however, is that our forecasts will only continue to get worse and weather will only continue to get more extreme as funding is pulled from climate change research and the Weather Service.
Clearly you didn’t listen to the message in the video. 🙄 the person in the area who was supposed to implement evacuation efforts had taken a ‘Trump buyout’ therefore no one was in place to carry out said efforts.
Yes & in the initial aftermath of most ‘events’ such as these-it’s prudent to wait until all the moving parts are pulled together. Shame on most media for their reporting mixed WITH their own ‘assumptions/agendas(perhaps)’ it is best to focus on the basics-who, what, why, when, where & how the event actually happened & how out-reach can be implemented-all the other what fors’ & what nots should be later.
Sorry to disappoint people, but the NWS did indeed send a text message out warning of a “Flood Emergency.” I have the backup.
