The FCC Wants To Censor LGBTQ+ People's Existence
Slapping a warning label on human beings
The Trump administration has demonized and attacked the LGBTQ+ community from the very start, especially transgender people. Now, even the FCC is explicitly saying that queer characters and storylines are offensive.
They’re planning to ask the TV Parental Guidelines Monitoring Board, the group responsible for TV ratings, to put a warning label – something they usually reserve for content with violence and profanity – on family TV shows with trans characters or storylines. Not sexually explicit storylines, not swearing, just the very existence of people who are nonbinary or trans.
The message this potential rule sends to kids — including kids who are LGBTQ+ or have LGBTQ+ parents or family members — is that some people are dangerous and need to be hidden just because of who they love and how they identify. It’s part of a larger effort to exclude LGBTQ+ people and take away their rights, like the right to marry, have a family, serve their country, and feel welcome at work and school.
The FCC is taking public comment on its plan until June 22nd, so we have just a few days to flood the agency with our thoughts.
Please sign on to our letter demanding the FCC reject this cruel and discriminatory rule. You can also use our form to include your own comment or personal story.
We’re not turning back the clock on rights — not during Pride month or any other time. We’re fighting for our rights and standing in solidarity with those whose very existence is under threat.

It’s already happening. My husband had to verify his age to join my livestreams here. YouTube flagged my videos as adult content. I’m a trans community college teacher.
