This week on Okay, But Why, we took a deep dive into Social Security — busting DOGE misinformation with real facts about the agency and the people who depend on it.
The “Department of Government Efficiency” has never been and still is not an actual government department (Trump “created” it by folding it into an existing department, the US Digital Service), nor does Elon Musk hold any official position in the administration beyond “special government employee.” And yet DOGE, with Musk clearly running the show, has been slashing and burning its way through the federal government.
In addition to Social Security, public schools, moms and babies, scientists studying bird flu, National Parks and Forest Service employees, and other critical agencies have been targeted.
So, given DOGE’s fixation on efficiency, of course they’re concerned about the millions of dollars Americans are spending on Trump's golfing trips to his own resorts, right?
… wait, they’re not talking about that?
DOGE was able to hit the ground running because it had a playbook ready to go on Day One: Project 2025. It’s not really about saving Americans money — dismantling the federal government was always the plan.
So let’s take a page out of Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s book and keep talking about it.
Four dead American soldiers and their grieving families are more important than a golf tournament.
