There are new genres of this field....I found while searching Amazon that a historian shares the same name as a man who writes gay romance fiction for....well, gay men. I also found a new field: BWWM fiction, where a poor, broke, black woman marries a white millionaire. I read a few. Just like the rest, white billionaire stubs his toe, goes to hospital, meets nurse, they fall in love, and get married.
Some are different...billionaire does not realize that his dalliance with heroine 10 years before resulted in their child. Billionaire and nurse are in their 40s and she is plus-sized.
They ARE aimed at women, but I doubt that all are written BY women -- pen-names are a standard in this business.
Note in MY fanfiction, the center is a romance, but I deliberately made the two equals, not a billionaire saving a nurse. I find that idea ridiculous. The nurse would be in over her head planning the billionaire's big dinner.
I'm also being careful with the inevitable love triangle. I won't say how that turns out.
