With Thanksgiving coming up in a few days, many of us are eagerly looking forward to a holiday feast — whether it’s planning a casual “Friendsgiving” or celebrating generations-long family traditions.
But for too many Americans, their minds aren’t on how many place settings they need or whether Aunt Mildred’s green bean recipe comes out right. Millions of families across the country are struggling to put food on their tables at all.
SNAP payments have resumed for most families, but that doesn’t mean the end of food insecurity. On Monday, we’ll be sharing some data about hunger in America and what you can do to help.
This week’s podcast was all about mutual aid, with a particular focus on neighborhood food banks. Our guest Lily started small by volunteering to deliver meals to families in need. She was so moved by the stories she heard on those delivery runs, and the friendships she made with other volunteers along the way, that she organized another program to feed even more of her neighbors.
Recently, a TroubleNation group got together to do the same! They raised thousands of dollars and “more food than we could weigh” for their community… and they had so much fun while doing it.
There are so many ways to help your neighbors with food insecurity this season. One tiny step, like signing up to deliver meals, might turn into something much bigger. You can search online for food banks near you, and if you want to find a TroubleNation group in your area, you can find it here!
