The chaos of the Trump administration continues and with breaking news happening every hour, it’s been hard to keep up on on the news. So here are three news stories you need to know about this week.
Trump Signs Order to Fight ‘Anti-Christian Bias’
The SWP Take: So is this the end of the separation of church and state? We are very concerned that this new task force, the first of it’s kind to specifically single out christianity, will be used to enable anti-LGBTQ policies, anti-muslim and anti-semitic policies, and bigotry, all in the name of christianity. This is not religious freedom and most religious leaders, all of faiths, do not want this.
Government Commission Halts Investigations of LGBTQ+ Workplace Discrimination
The SWP Take: The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission or EEOC has stopped their investigations into claims of people being targeting or fired for gender identity or sexual orientation. It is really scary that a long protected right is under attack. People should not be discriminated against for their gender identity or sexual orientation.
The SWP Take: It’s easy to miss news right now but it’s important to know that real Americans are being heavily affected by many of Trump’s executive orders. The trillions of dollars in federal loans, grants and financial assistance that was temporarily stopped last week left organizations across the country scrambling without their funding. These include organizations that employee people with mental disabilities, the Head Start program for educating pre-school aged children, and programs for trans youth.
