There is so much chaos every single week, but here are a few news stories that we wanted to highlight this week.
Food banks scramble after USDA halts $500 million in deliveries
The RWB Take: Food banks across the country are scrambling as they learn of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of food deliveries that have been canceled for the spring. This comes at a time when grocery prices remain high, and cuts to aid programs continue. We are at a time in our nation’s history where more Americans are facing food insecurity and they rely on access to food through local food banks. Cutting aid to these food banks at this time is an unnecessarily cruel decision by the administration.
The RWB Take: Oklahoma is paving the way for an end to the separation of church and state with Ryan Walters, the state superintendent, leading the charge. You may have heard of Walters in the past. He’s the one who bought Trump-branded Bibles for all Oklahoma classrooms. He’s currently pushing for the first Catholic public charter school, using Oklahoma education funding, and filling top leadership roles with extremists like the head of the Heritage Foundation and the leader of the anti-LGBTQ group Libs of TikTok. As the author says in this piece:
“This is what Christian nationalism looks like in governance — rejecting church and state separation and installing Christian viewpoints — and it’s on the rise with Trump back in the White House.”
Now that is something that should concern all Americans.
How activists are ramping up efforts to push back against Trump
The RWB Take: There is so much bad news out there right now that we were excited to share this article about how Americans across the country are ramping up their protests, and raising their voices agains the Trump administration. In February there were more than 2,085 protests nationwide, and these efforts include Americans from all walks of life, of all ages, religions, and education levels. This is truly a diverse group of people making their voices heard.
And don’t forget, Red Wine & Blue has both virtual and in-person events all week long, every week to educate you on the issues, share stories of real women taking action, and teach you how to make a difference in your community. You can check out our events anytime at our RWB Events Page.
"We pay attention to the chaos so you don't have to"
For a progressive women's group, that statement reflects a patronizing attitude. Recommend something like "We summarize the news so that you can focus on your multiple commitments."
