Kids received these books mailed to their homes and they belonged to them. I love libraries too, but not every parent has access to a library or knows about them or had time to take their kids to the library. This is an excellent, cost effective program with a very high ROI.
I agree that it's a great program. I think more than 1 book is great, too.

Who doesn't have access? It's free. My grandparents were sharecroppers in a Midwest farming town. My grandma got her kids books.
Parks and Recreation booklets are sent to every address twice a year. They include information about the local libraries and their free programs, including adult literacy. Specifically so that people have that information.
People who don’t have reliable transportation. People who live far away from the nearest library. People who don’t understand how libraries work, or maybe the vibe of their library is such that parents don’t feel welcome, in communities where there has been a lot of air time given to banning LGBTQ books, for example. also, in my own community and many communities where libraries are underfunded, they’re NOT open 7 days a week. BTW, I’m extremely pro-library, and in fact I’m a librarian by profession. I’m telling you that some kids are going to be worse off without Dolly’s program because they are unable to have the same access to libraries that you have had.
