Across the nation, women are uniting to demand the protection of American democracy. One of those groups, Good Trouble Western North Carolina, is doing that on a weekly basis. Talk about dedication!
Throughout August, the TroubleNation group gathered every Monday outside the office of GOP Senator Ted Budd in the Federal Building in downtown Asheville. They advocated for their positions on various issues, including education funding, cuts to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and immigration enforcement. They repeatedly sent letters to Budd with participants' signatures to ensure the Senator knew exactly what they stood for and against.
“These things we think are extremely important, and our elected official is not listening to his constituents about them. That’s our big concern,” organizer Karen Guthrie Bigham told Asheville Citizen Times.
Their strategy? Show up with targeted messages. They know what they want, and they won’t stop fighting until they get there. And they accomplish that by working together as a community.

The TroubleNation group connects women in Buncombe and Henderson Counties of Western North Carolina who want to work with others who share their values to take action on the local level.
From ‘Unhappy Hours’, where members come together to talk about the issues that matter to them, registering people to vote, and collecting donated school supplies for local teachers, this group provides people with the connection and tools they need to succeed in the long run.
We love the work Good Trouble Western North Carolina is doing in their community. If you’re inspired by their work, you can find a group in your area by visiting our TroubleNation page!
Love this. We should try and do this in all of our communities.
