Joy Is What We're Fighting For

The resistance can be a party

Ever since the inauguration, we’ve been hearing a lot of questions about the resistance. What does resistance look like in 2025? Why does this resistance look different than it did in 2017? Why aren’t you being louder?

And recently - why are you hosting fun events when you should be focused on resisting?

Here’s the thing. We are in a very different time than we were in 2017. And we are all different people than we were back then. We have more experience and knowledge about how to fight back. And we know that we can’t keep this fight going if we don’t have some joy! So why can’t resistance include fun?

In fact, it’s commonly said that community is the antidote to fascism. Right now the Trump administration wants to break us down, divide us, tear us apart, but we won’t let them. We know that we’re stronger together. We’re better when we are a community. And so we are going to keep fighting, but we are also going to make space for times of joy. We are going to come together to make change and to make friends.

We are going to defeat extremism, one happy hour, one neighborhood get-together, one protest march, and one suburb at a time.
