From Sesame Street to PragerU
The White House’s Shift from Public Broadcasting to Right-Wing Media
Congress pulled over $500 million in federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. That means PBS and NPR — trusted sources for kids’ shows, educational programming, and local news for nearly 50 years — are at risk of disappearing.
While public broadcasting faces shutdowns, the White House has introduced a new “education partner”: PragerU.
What is PragerU?
Despite the name, it’s not a university. It’s a right-wing media network producing “pro-American” videos, kids’ cartoons, books, podcasts, and full lesson plans – all designed to shape young Americans’ worldview.
PragerU content has been accused of pushing climate change denial, Islamophobia, and misleading claims about slavery.
This is political propaganda disguised as education.
On June 25th, the White House announced its partnership as part of the kickoff for the White House’s “Founders Museum” exhibit and its commemoration of the Declaration of Independence’s 250th anniversary.
The partnership gives PragerU a federal stamp of approval and a national platform.
If you don’t want propaganda replacing public broadcasting and accurate education, start talking about this now. Share it with your friends, your family, and anyone who cares about keeping education honest.
This is all wrong...especially if the downfall of NPR/PBS occurs in an even more defining way as this one is run and approved...key word there...by the federal government. Call your Congress at 5 calls app today.
