Fighting for Schools in North Carolina
Meet the women who came together to demand school funding
For years, North Carolina’s students, families, and teachers have raised urgent concerns about underfunded schools, but lawmakers have failed to act. Last week, North Carolinians decided they’ve had enough.
Red Wine & Blue collaborated with Every Child NC and Pastors for NC Children to bring together parents, educators, and advocates from across the state to demand that lawmakers stop delaying and finally fund public education.
Speakers called on legislators to take immediate action by implementing the Leandro Plan and passing a state budget that makes meaningful investments in public schools. These investments would substantially increase the amount of state funding that goes to each district, funding these counties are owed!
This would go to critical resources such as teachers, classroom supplies and textbooks, counselors, nurses, and more. They also highlighted the damaging effects of chronic underfunding and emphasized the importance of protecting public schools from privatization.
This Public Education Advocacy Day just goes to show the power of people coming together to fight for their community. When they go low, we go local!
There’s still work to be done, and Red Wine & Blue will be there every step of the way.
