I was an orchestra kid (or as we called ourselves "orch dorks" 😂) and I absolutely agree!

Look at that nasty old white man - pointing his finger like the privleged patriarchal authoritarian prick that he is - time to take your ignorant, disrespectful, intolerant crap and go home. Young folks - this is your world !!! Rise up and revolt (peacefully) against this rot! Love the community and composer support.

And now they will perform in a theater - compliments of Minocqua Brewing

I hope the community votes the far right members off the board

Unfortunately it looks like the vote was 7-1, with only one board member supporting the song. Hopefully the community votes in a new school board with this in mind though!

This is the most amazing and heartening thing I have read today. Picturing the people with their ears against the walls trying to take in the muffled music is a beautiful image of community.

Y'all gotta check in with the Minocqua brewing support of these kids and the upcoming 5/28 performance at the Barrymore. Ref Minocqua's substack.

I am so proud of the students, their bandleader, their parents and community for fighting for acceptance of all LGBTQIA people! Thanks also to the church for stepping up, and the composer for honoring their struggle.

It's such a relief to write about something hopeful!

I love this, especially the composer coming to direct!

I don't think MAGAts realize how their attempts to squash things they don't like makes the rest of us more determined to make them happen. They ban a book; outside people buy them and make them available for free to the kids. They cancel a concert; the piece is still performed somewhere else and more people get to hear it than would have if they'd just let it go.

Wonderful story and so awesome that the community took this on when the school board refused.

What a wonderful story to read, especially after six congressional Dem's supported an educational funding bill that includes discrimination of trans students this past week. There are places within organized religion that have my deepest respect.

The ELCA Lutherans are usually pretty good on social justice!

You gotta love it! When are the bigots ever going to learn? History is not on their side. We fight; we win. Remember; if your primary hasn't been held yet; VOTE! These are the candidates on the ballot in November. And VOTE in November! Our democracy depends on it.

What a joyful development!

I hope this community now realizes how important local elections are.
