A Backdoor National Abortion Ban
Planned Parenthood Announces Closure of 2 Ohio Clinics Following the ‘Big, Ugly Bill,’ with Hundreds More Expected
Clinics in Springfield and Hamilton, Ohio are closing due to the federal reconciliation bill, signed by Donald Trump, which prohibits abortion providers that received over $800,000 in federal funds from accepting Medicaid.
Ohio's new state budget, signed by Gov. Mike DeWine, also played a role by including a trigger to eliminate Medicaid coverage for low-income adults if federal coverage drops below 90%.
Who does this impact?
Planned Parenthood has offered sexual and reproductive health care services since its founding in 1916 and sees more than 2 million people a year throughout its nearly 600 clinics across the U.S. Those services include cancer screenings, testing, and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, as well as critical annual physical exams.
For many Americans, particularly those in rural communities, Planned Parenthood member clinics are the sole providers of sexual and reproductive health care for individuals relying on Medicaid. Approximately 40% of the organization's patients utilized Medicaid to cover the costs of their health services.
Planned Parenthood warns that federal funding cuts could result in the closure of up to 200 clinics nationwide. This effectively acts as a backdoor national abortion ban.
Even states like Ohio that have protected abortion access through ballot measures are impacted if clinics are forced to close, eliminating access to care. Speak out, organize locally, and demand policies that protect reproductive healthcare nationwide.
☹️😠. Taking away women’s health care to better control them. They also want to take away our right to vote!
This is the action of people that are so rich, they’ve grown bored. Like trump wrote in his letter to Epstein. Cruelly and authoritarianism is the new way to get their jollies .
Disgusting. PP saved my daughters life when they discovered a type of cervical cancer when she started college.
